Event Details
Did you know that London’s Green Belt is almost a century old? At this event we will look at the Green Belt’s history, successes, development and ongoing challenges.
Find out why the Green Belt’s success in holding back sprawl has been a critical environmental policy for London and other cities; why building on Green Belt cannot solve the housing crisis; why it continues to come under threat; and why the “strongest protection” for Green Belt land is more relevant now than ever.
With the newly elected government, we want to emphasise the importance of Green Belt protections, underline why releasing Green Belt for house building won’t solve the housing crisis, and why talking about “grey belt” leads speculators to buy Green Belt, landbank it and leave it to dereliction.
Who should attend - Anyone wishing to learn more about why the Green Belt is one of the most important environmental protections we have in this country.
Why you should attend - Learn about why the Green Belt is critical to tackling the climate and nature crisis; why building on it won’t solve the housing crisis; and why it’s more relevant now than ever.
