Event Details
The LFGN Climate Resilience sub-group has arranged a visit to the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Wisley site (near to Woking) on 12th June 2025. The purpose of the visit is to explore, learn about, and understand the latest research on alternative tree and shrub planting options for open spaces, in a changing climate. We will consider more frequent drought conditions along with future rainfall and water management options for open spaces. The visit will be led by Helen Bensted Smith and Dr Nick Cryer, who leads RHS’s research on these issues. Helen is part of the gardens team and she will lead a tour of the Wildlife Garden and Clear Lake. The visit will be a follow up to the webinar we held last autumn on these issues, which Nick Cryer led.
The visit will commence at 1030 at the main entrance to RHS Wisley. The RHS website gives details of travel options to the site. The relevant page can be found here how-to-get-to-wisley . For those travelling by public transport please arrange to meet at Woking station exit on platform 5 (not the main station entrance), provisionally at 1000, and we’ll travel to the site by bus. As the bus service timings are changing, the final timings will be sent to those participating nearer to the date of the visit. Woking is reached from London Waterloo in about 30 minutes.
The event is expected to finish at lunchtime - we don't have a precise finish time.
The visit has limited spaces, but if the event is sold out, please contact Laura (laura@cprelondon.org.uk) to be placed on the waiting list in case anyone drops out.
There is no charge for the visit as RHS have kindly agreed to waive their normal entrance charge. The first 10 bookings will be accepted.
Please note that attendees accept responsibility for transportation to and from the event and that attendees should take appropriate precautions for their safety during the event.
